Bikes and Bakes

Hooray! Gamma Transport Division, a bike repair outfit, gallery space and cafe, is now open for business in Stockbridge, Edinburgh.

This place is a great big chunk of cool, and I don’t even go in for bikes! As part of the wider Gamma Proforma group GTD blends practicality and creative vision. They also happen to make incredible coffee from a Faema President coffee machine, circa 1962. Framed graffiti pieces line the walls, courtesy of SheOne, and owner Gavin Brough is on-hand to do the dirty work of fixing ailing cycles.

Gamma Transport Division is also the first outlet for Eden Bake’s delicious wares. My ultra talented friend Rachel has launched her own baking business to much rapturous applause from her biggest fans (the people that have been sampling her bodacious baked goods for many years and been convinced that they should be in wider distribution!).

Rachel uses seasonal ingredients and her unique creative spirit to make pieces of cake artistry for special occasions and parties. See her website for more details and news of her rise to sugary stardom!

I get so excited and inspired by people who turn their passions into careers. It’s even better when those people form a local community of creative people who help each other out and, by turn, benefit from coming together. I wish both Gavin and Rachel so much luck for the future. In my mind they are already super stars and real local treasures.
