diedododa

diedododa is a basement-based emporium of style and design filled with wonderfully eccentric pieces of re-designed furniture, jewellery and one-off abstract art in Newington. Although this treasure trove is tucked away on a quiet side street it should be on the radar of any self-respecting aesthetic junkie.

Creator and owner is German-born artist Dodo whose charming modesty belies her obvious talent. Amongst my favourite pieces of Dodo’s furniture is the chest of drawers covered in Toile De Jouy called ‘Toile Tantrum’ and a matte grey French dresser whose drawers had been painted with fine ribbon tied in bows.

The gallery space also houses Dodo’s workshop in which she develops projects, remodels pieces of antique furniture into quirky statement pieces, makes jewellery, paints abstract canvases and works on commissions.

If you’re looking for furniture for a new flat, a special gift for a friend, a statement piece to store your precious bits n’ pieces or a completely unique artwork diedododa is the perfect place to search for treasure.

I’m so pleased that I happened to walk past diedododa en route to a beautiful walk up Arthur’s Seat as it meant finding another independent Edinburgh shop to add to my map but also because Dodo happens to be one of the nicest people I’ve met in the city!

Go and support her folks! And in turn support an independent, creative Edinburgh.
